About The Event
There are many times when we disagree with our parents. We usually think that our parents because they are older are unable to understand our modern day struggles or cultural shifts and geographical changes. Thinking that they take control too much, telling us what to do regardless of our age however the Quran states: “The Lord has decreed that you worship none save Him alone, and behave beneficently towards parents. If either or both of them should attain old age while you are alive, say not `ugh’ to them, nor chide them, and speak kindly to them. Lower to them the wing of humility out of tenderness and pray: Lord have mercy upon them as they brought me up when I was little.” (Al Isra:25)
Is this appropriate in all contexts?
Helicopter parenting' linked to behavioural problems in children is a term describing what some people see as over-protective and over-controlling parental behaviour. The term is based on the image of a parent constantly "hovering" over a child, allowing them little opportunity for freedom of action. Do parents serve a purpose for us in this day and time? Are they overstepping the mark or necessary in our current and future plans in our lives. Come, discuss, share and more.
