About The Event

Exhibition launch

Britain’s young imams: Rebels, traditionalists, YouTubers, feminists.

A photo-essay by Shyamantha Asokan.

About the Exhibition: The imam’s role is changing in Britain, against the backdrop of fast-evolving and much-debated ideas about British Muslim identity. In this photo-essay, Britain’s new generation of imams share their thoughts on YouTube sermons, gender-equal mosques, Islamophobia, and more - in their own words. The full series features portraits and interviews with thirteen imams based in cities including Liverpool, Oldham, Blackburn, and London.
