Film Screening "Imam and I"

On the 50th anniversary of the event, acclaimed director and editor Khalid Shamis explores the truth and lies behind the killing of his Grandfather, Imam Haron, in police custody under the aggressive apartheid regime in 60’s Cape Town, South Africa. His journey takes him into the homes and worlds of the Imam’s peers and family, to understand exactly what happened on 27th September, 1969. An upstanding man of the community, the Imam’s family have been shaken to its core by his death, and is to this day, a role model of every kind.
