What is the meaning of a tariqa? Tariq from a linguists perspective can mean road, journey or path. However the same term can also be defined as a methodology, denoting the rules and guidelines originating from al Qur'an and Hadith, for one traveling the spiritual path.

And if they (the human and the jin) وَأَلَّوِ ٱسْتَقَٰمُواْ عَلَى ٱلطَّرِيقَةِ لَأَسْقَيْنَٰهُم مَّآءً غَدَقًا had remained steadfast upon the path (Tariqah), We would have certainly given them (provision, especially) rain in abundance." (Surah al Jin: 16)
