About The Event
Cave Open Mic @caveopenmic is a night of poetry, comedy, music and whatever spoken word you bring to the space! This month's featured poets are Sagal Gabay and Chifa Khelfaoui.
Chifa Khelfaoui is a Spoken Word artist who uses poetry and video to express her thoughts and emotions on the complications of life, particularly of Arab Women. Khelfaoui is interested in merging poetry, rap and music to convey her ideas and opinions to create a space for many different types of audiences where they are encouraged to speak up. Recent performances include: supporting the poet and the first ever Muslim astronaut who is due to blast off to space, Hussain Manawer, at the Jazz Cafe, The Roundhouse as a finalist in the Poetry Slam 2018 during the Last Word Festival that included artists such as Yomi Sode and the American poet Samuel Williams, and at the Hackney Empire theatre as the winner of the annual Alter Ego contest. Fusing spoken word and theatre, she has recently written and performed her first solo show, Cheerleaders, as part of the Last Word Festival at the Roundhouse. Sagal Gabay is a spoken word poet who has been performing for the past 4 years. She aims to create social awareness through her poems and writes about issues such as immigration, youth knife crime, poverty and gender equality. Appearing in publications and exhibitions, Sagal has performed at venues including City Hall and the British Library alongside the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan. She is in her final year of university studying English at King’s College London. As well as poetry, Sagal enjoys expressing herself through many other forms including boxing, podcasting and blogging.
